Ductless Heat Pump Installation in Baltimore, MD

Ductless heat pump installation in Baltimore
The Mighty Ductless installs ductless heat pumps across Baltimore, MD and the surrounding counties. Every ductless mini split we install is a heat pump: one system that cools in July and heats in January, with no ducts, no flue, and no fuel deliveries. Modern cold-climate models, like the Mitsubishi hyper-heating systems we install, are rated to deliver heat at -13°F, far colder than a normal Baltimore winter night, so a properly sized system heats most Baltimore-area homes all season without backup. Installation costs $3,000 to $5,500 for a single-zone system and $7,000 to $12,000 for a multi-zone system covering two to four rooms, fully installed, including the permit. Most single-zone installations are completed in one day. We are a ductless-only specialist: Maryland licensed, EPA 608 certified, and a Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor. How a ductless heat pump works
A ductless heat pump pairs one outdoor unit with one or more wall-mounted indoor units. A single-zone system adds heating and cooling to one room. A multi-zone system runs several indoor units off one outdoor unit, each with its own temperature control. Because a heat pump moves heat instead of creating it, it delivers roughly three times more heating energy than the electricity it consumes. We install Mitsubishi, Daikin, and LG systems, and we size each one with a room-by-room load calculation, so it covers the January heating load and not just July cooling. Not sure what capacity you need? Our mini split sizing guide breaks it down by room.
Heat pump replacement in Baltimore
Replacing an aging heat pump, furnace, or electric baseboard heat? Compare ductless before you default to another ducted unit. If your ducts are in good shape, we will tell you honestly that a conventional replacement may serve you fine. If they are leaky, in a crawlspace, or missing, ductless usually wins on both comfort and running costs. If your home already has a furnace or boiler, a mini split does not require removing it. Many of our customers run the mini split as primary heat for its lower running cost and keep the old system as a backup they rarely touch.
Will a heat pump keep up in a Baltimore winter?
Yes. Around Baltimore, winter lows usually sit in the 20s and only occasionally dip into the teens. Standard units maintain strong heating output down to around 5°F, and the cold-climate models we install are rated to -13°F. On the coldest mornings the outdoor unit runs a short defrost cycle, which is normal heat pump behavior and not a malfunction. Our ductless heating guide covers cold-weather performance, running costs, and backup heat in detail.
What does a ductless heat pump cost in Baltimore?
A ductless heat pump costs $3,000 to $5,500 installed for a single-zone system and $7,000 to $12,000 for a multi-zone system covering two to four rooms. Those prices include the equipment, labor, refrigerant charging, electrical hookup, and the required permit. Where you land in the range depends on the brand, the BTU capacity you need, how many indoor units you are running, and how the line set has to be routed in your home. See our Baltimore mini split cost guide for the full breakdown.
Maryland heat pump rebates
Maryland’s EmPOWER program, administered locally by BGE, offers rebates for qualifying ductless heat pumps. The federal 25C tax credit expired on December 31, 2025, so it is no longer available. Rebate amounts change during the year, so we confirm the current figures with you during your free in-home estimate.
Permits and licensing
Maryland requires a licensed contractor to pull HVAC permits, and we take care of it as part of every job, so the work is inspected and code-compliant. Handling refrigerant requires EPA 608 certification. An unpermitted install can create problems at resale and voids many manufacturer warranties.
Heat pump questions from Baltimore homeowners
Is a ductless mini split the same as a heat pump?
Yes. Every ductless mini split we install is an air-source heat pump. One system both cools and heats.
Do I need backup heat in Baltimore?
In most Baltimore-area homes, no. A properly sized cold-climate system carries the whole winter on its own. The honest exceptions are rooms the system does not reach, and homeowners who want a fallback during extended power outages, which affects every electric heating system equally.
How long does heat pump installation take?
A single-zone installation takes about 4 to 6 hours, and nearly every one is finished in one day, including the system test and cleanup. A multi-zone system takes 1 to 2 days. Our installation guide walks through each step.
Do you repair heat pumps you did not install?
Yes. We maintain and repair ductless systems we did not install. See ductless mini split maintenance and repair.
